DPR/Alexander Kurenkov: Attracting third-party peacekeeping missions to DPR territory is pointless

The Donetsk People’s Republic independently ensures its own security, and also protects internal order and its borders. Therefore, we consider the involvement of third-party peacekeeping missions on our territory not only pointless, but can also treat them as a military intervention. This was stated in a commentary to the official DPR website by the DPR People’s Council MP, Alexander Kurenkov.

“First things first, I must say that we really appreciate the participation of the Belarusian president in the peace process and are grateful to him for the platform for negotiations with the Ukrainian party provided in Minsk.

It was in the capital of Belarus that the signing of such an important document for Donbass as the Minsk agreements took place.

Now the main task of the parties to this international treaty is

to follow its clauses. It has nothing stated about any peacekeeping missions in it. Moreover, clause 10 expressly states that all foreign armed groups must be withdrawn,” the parliamentarian said.

Vladislav Berdichevsky: We reject any peacekeeping assistance with deployment of military units of other states in territory of Donbass

The resolution of a military confrontation between the Republics of Donbass and Ukraine lies solely within the framework of the signed Minsk agreements and a corresponding resolution of the United Nations Security Council, therefore a statement of the President of Belarus on a deployment of peacekeepers is untimely. This was stated by Deputy of the DPR’s People’s Council Vladislav Berdichevsky in an interview to the official website of the Donetsk People’s Republic.

ʺWe are well aware of the leader of Belarus’ desire to assist with the settlement of the conflict in Donbass and his concerns on this matter. Belarus has been recently forced to impose restrictions on crossing Belarusian-Ukrainian border due to a flow of arms from Ukraine.

In this context, Alexander Lukashenko’s words about the possible deployment of Belarusian peacekeepers are perceived as Minsk’s attempt to contribute to peace in Donbass,ʺ the deputy said.

Vladislav Berdichevsky added that the resolution of the military conflict in Donbass was exclusively within the Minsk agreements.

ʺWhile noting the role of Minsk in the political aspect of the resolution of the conflict, we reject any peacekeeping assistance with the deployment of military units of other states in the territory of Donbass,ʺ the deputy noted.

The continued sabotage of a peaceful process by new Ukrainian power encourages Donbass to strengthen partnership relations with Russia. This was stated by Deputy of the DPR’s People’s Council Marina Zheynova in an interview to the Donetsk News Agency.

ʺI just want to laugh in response to Danilyuk’s statements that someone will be able to influence sovereign Ukraine through a special status. Everyone has been ruling this state since 2014 – both Europe and the US. Ukraine is not able to take a single step without coordination with its handlers,ʺ Marina Zheynova said.

It should be reminded that on September 22, a Spanish newspaper El Pais published an interview with Secretory of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine Alexander Danilyuk, in which he stated that a special status of Donbass was a Russia’s tool to pressure Ukraine.

DPR officials discuss launching trade mission in Syria

Donetsk, Sep 24 – DAN. The Donetsk People’s Republic might open its permanent trade mission in Syria, DPR Head Administration first deputy chief of staff Gennady Lebed said on Tuesday following a visit to the Syrian Arab Republic.

“In Syria… we established valuable relations which we have to develop,” Lebed said. “I believe that we created groundwork for expanding our business presence in Syria, so a permanent trade mission might be one of the possible ways to realise it.”

Earlier reports said that the DPR and Syria had preliminary talks over deliveries from Donbass of industrial products and food and IT software assistance. The parties also reached accords on implementing a number of joint projects.

A DPR delegation took part in the international exhibition and investment conference Rebuild Syria which was held in Damascus on September 17 – 21.*jk
