Those who resort to force, real or imaginary, and violence to subjugate other nations have failed to learn well the lessons of history. Be it the bombings of former Yugoslavia, the wars in Iraq and Libya, the neo-Nazi regime coming to power in Ukraine or nurturing terrorist groups in Syria – there are always specific people who initiate, finance and carry out the crimes against peace and humanity. They should remember the lessons of Nuremberg war crimes trials held 70 years ago.

The idea of the trials was put forward almost simultaneously by all parties to the anti-Hitler’s coalition. As far back as June 22, 1941, the Soviet Union said the Nazi leadership had to stand the trial for unleashing the war.

The need for an international trial over the criminals was first indicated on Oct. 14, 1942, in the Soviet Government’s statement «Of the responsibility of the Hitlerite aggressors and their accomplices for crimes committed in the occupied countries of Europe». The statement said, «The Soviet Government considers it essential to hand over without delay to the courts of the special international tribunal, and to punish according to all the severity of the criminal code, any of the leaders of Fascist Germany who in the course of the war have fallen into the hands of States fighting against Hitlerite Germany». 

In their turn, the governments of the United States and Great Britain made the statements on the responsibility of Hitlerites for heinous crimes committed against humanity in October, 1941. The decision to set up an international tribunal was taken at the Potsdam conference of the allied powers. In late May 1945 Josef Stalin ordered Marshall Georgy Zhukov to leave Germany and come to Moscow. He was concerned over the actions of British allies. Stalin said the Soviet forces disarmed Germans and sent them to prisoners’ camps while British did not. Instead they cooperated with Germans troops and let them maintain combat capability. Stalin believed that there were plans to use them later. He emphasized that it was an outright violation of inter-government agreement that said the forces surrendered were to be immediately disbanded. The Soviet intelligence got the text of secret telegram sent by Winston Churchill to Field Marshall Bernard Montgomery, the commander of British forces. It instructed to collect the weapons and keep them in readiness to give back to Germans in case the Soviet offensive continued.

According to the instructions received from Stalin, Zhukov harshly condemned these activities speaking at the Allied Control Council (the Soviet Union, the United States, the United Kingdom and France). The act of unconditional capitulation signed on May 9, 1945 did not put an end to hostilities in Europe. The German High Command’s ordered the forces in the north-west of Germany, Denmark and the Netherlands to lay down arms. There was no reason to continue resistance there. The fight was to go on in the east. Army Group Centre (1^st and 4^th Tank and 17^thArmy) led by Field Marshall Ferdinand Schörner and elements of Army Group Ostmark (operational in Austria and Czechoslovakia) led by Generaloberst (Senior General) Lothar Rendulic were concentrated in Czechoslovakia to offer stiff resistance to the Red Army. Czech historian Eve Hahnová wrote an article About Anti-Russian Stereotype of Goebbels propaganda. It says that the contemporary Western media looks very much like Nazi propaganda in fascist Germany. Offering her comments on Goebbels diaries, Eve Hahnová says the West uses an artificially created image created by Nazi propaganda by the end of WWII. The «threat coming from the East» and «Russian menace» revive Hitler’s propaganda stereotypes.

General-Lieutenant (two stars) Vasily Petrenko was in charge of 107^thinfantry division at the time. The story is getting more confirmations. The rumors launched by Radoslaw Sikorski, the speaker of Polish parliament, who accused Moscow of offering Poland parts of Ukraine, were concocted by Poles themselves with a distinct goal in mind – to feel out the reaction on the idea of Ukraine’s partition. The parliamentary opposition wanted the speaker to resign but lost the vote with only 146 MPs out of 434 to support the motion. Sikorski realized that he jumped the gun and his statements were negatively affecting the government plans, so he changed the tactics. Speaking at Harvard University on November 20 he told listeners that Poland was different from Ukraine because it resolutely stepped on the way of reform to become part of transatlantic structures. What he actually meant was that only Poland could lead Ukraine – the whole of it or divided – in the direction the West wanted it to go. Moscow stood in the way. So the Western military alliance was to go back to the mission it was founded for - the deterrence of Russia.

Polish Foreign Minister Grzegorz Shetina joined Sikorski making botched statements. In an interview to Gazeta Wyborcza he compared the relationship of Warsaw and Kiev with the relations between European countries and their colonies in Africa. The Minister made comments on the «Normandy Format» (Germany-France-Russia-Ukraine) gas transit resumption talks in Milan. Muitos órgãos de comunicação comparam a situação contemporânea na Europa com os dias anteriores à II Guerra Mundial. Gostava de fazer aqui uma correção importante. George Freedman, diretor do think-tank norte-americano Stratfor, entende que alguns países da OTAN devem aumentar os gastos militares. No caso da Polônia, cujo gasto militar é próximo de 2% do PIB, deve ser aumentado para 5%.[1] A "ameaça russa" em torno da qual Freedman e tantos deliram está sendo usada para impor aumento no gasto militar dos países que compõem a OTAN. 

"Os gastos de defesa russos cresceram mais de 10% em termos reais anualmente ao longo dos últimos cinco anos" - disse o secretário-geral da OTAN Anders Fogh Rasmussen, numa conferência de segurança em Bratislava, Eslováquia (15/5/2014). Comparou os investimentos crescentes de Moscou, com os números declinantes em vários países europeus membros da OTAN - vários dos quais cortaram gastos em 20% (até mesmo, 40% - imaginem só!), no mesmo período.[2]

Será que alguém, no ocidente, está realmente com medo da Rússia? Parece que não. A Casa Branca e Stratfor, por exemplo, não parecem intimidadas pela "ameaça" russa. George Freedman vê a Rússia como potência regional, não global; e Barack Obama não faz outra coisa além de meter-se a 'ensinar' à Rússia o que ela deve(ria) e não deve(ria) fazer. Por exemplo, uma das lições de BO à Rússia é que deve normalizar imediatamente as relações com Petro Poroshenko. Isso, só para começar. Porque a lista de instruções é longa:

1) Todas as tropas russas devem ser retiradas da fronteira da Ucrânia. O presidente dos EUA mete-se a dizer à Rússia onde deve(ria) pôr ou não pôr tropas, em território russo. É i-na-cre-di-tá-vel. É cômico. É além de ridículo.

2) É hora de pôr fim ao apoio dos russos às formações de resistência e autodefesa. Pronto. Não há o que abale a fantasia de BO, segundo a qual as
